Many policymakers and academics believe that a crisis of this scale might allow for a deeper re-set of our economies.
Climate change and ecological crises, rising inequality - both the stagnation in real wages and the racial economic opportunity gap - and high debt levels are some of the trends they want to reverse.
The proposals divide into 3 camps:
Those that want to overhaul capitalism.
Those that do not want to change the system but urge more experimentation.
Those that believe we should use existing playbooks.
In the near term many politicians fall into camp 3.
However, in the long-term, changing demographic preferences could see voters demanding different policies.
