Ian Harnett Featured on Bloomberg's Opening Trade

Updated: Aug 13, 2025

Absolute Strategy Research Co-Founder and Chief Investment Advisor, Ian Harnett, joined Guy Johnson, Kriti Gupta, and Valerie Tytel on Bloomberg Television’s Opening Trade this morning to discuss ASR’s recent research into US tariffs during the early 1920s and early 1930s, and the significant shocks to US corporate profits observed during those periods.

During the discussion, Ian also examined the growing weaponization of capital—highlighted by the ‘side-deals’ reported today by NVIDIA—and considered the implications of running the US economy “hot” for asset allocation strategies.

The segment runs from approximately 29 minutes to 36 minutes in the full programme, which can be viewed via Bloomberg TV: Watch here.

Very insightful discussion on tariffs and their broader economic impact. You explained the connections clearly without making Deck Lighting Colorado it too technical, which I really appreciated. I came across a similar analysis on a griffindeck-based review blog (griffindeck), and it helped round out the topic even more.
